The Apple

Today’s scripture: Psalm 95:1-7 (NRSV) (The Message)

As you read, consider: What might God be saying to me in this passage? Summarize your thoughts in a sentence or two.

My thoughts (Tammy Mills):

I’m always starving when I get home from church on Sunday nights. The first thing I do when I get home, is throw open the refrigerator and look for something to eat. The other night I threw open the fridge and declared, “There’s nothing to eat!” I stomped off in a huff!

It wasn’t but a bit later, when one of our little girls came to me, bringing an apple. “Mama”, she said. “I found this apple in the fridge and there is milk, and ketchup, and eggs, and cheese, and juice, and yogurt,” on and on she went….

She was right. There was a lot of food in the fridge. I just hadn’t really seen what was there. When there wasn’t exactly what I wanted, I dismissed the whole lot. I need to work a whole lot harder at REALLY seeing what is in front of me and learning to give thanks for what I have even if it isn’t what I want at that moment.

Psalm 95 reminds me that I need to approach God in the same whay my little daughter approached the fridge. I need to open my eyes to see who God really is and the amazing way God works in my life!

The apple I ate that night might just have been the best after work snack I have ever had.

Question for the day: Do I really see all I have to be thankful for?

Today, let’s join together in prayer for: The Couples’ and Honeymooners Oasis Groups, and their leaders: Stan Lyford-Jones, Paul Hancock, and Sheryl Holko.

We encourage you to include a time of prayer with this reading. Use the item above as a starting point, or consider the guidelines on the How to Pray page.
