You Say Goodbye, and I Say Hello

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Nobody likes to say goodbye. The loss is painful, and it’s easier to not face it, to just let things slide.

But the spiritual journey is often a series of hellos and goodbyes and hellos and goodbyes.

If we do the difficult work of goodbyes, then we will be ready to really embrace the next “thing” God has for us in our spiritual journey. This sermon looks at one of Paul’s farewell speeches to learn about healthy goodbyes.

Every one of us is on a spiritual journey. Whether we know it or not, whether we’re giving it much thought or attention or not, our souls are in the process of becoming something new, seeking out our purpose.

Are you making progress on your journey? Or are you stuck on a detour, or an off-ramp you didn’t mean to take?

What Do We Have To Be Grateful For?

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Scripture tells us to give thanks in all situations. So, how do we do that? Why should we do that?

This sermon looks at a lesson we learn from 10 lepers. It’s a familiar story, in which they are all healed — yet only one expressed his gratitude. What he received was much more than simple healing — it was the path to wholeness.

This I Believe

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

When your world is spinning out of control — what do you hold on to? Underneath the layers of what we’ve been told to believe and what we “ought” to believe, what sustains you? Pastor Tammy shares a bit of her heart with us in this sermon.

Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

What image do you see when you imagine God?

Images are powerful things. We may say that we understand God to be a God of love and grace, but do we hold on to images of a judgmental, distant, critical God? Are our images more “bully” than “loving creator”?

This sermon looks at some (perhaps surprising) images that are given to us in scripture.

Last Comic Standing

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

If you’re like most of us, you probably have a stash of unfinished projects. Maybe it’s a drawer, or a closet, or even a garage full!

What about spiritual “projects”? Have any of those that are unfinished? What area of growth has God called you to, that you just haven’t gotten around to finishing?

In this sermon, we’ll learn from the example of Nehemiah, who resolved to accomplish the task that had been given to him.
