Giants in the Land

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

This sermon is Pastor Jeff’s annual “State of the Church” address. 2007 was a roller coaster ride for Jesus MCC with great highs and lows — but Jeff shares with us a vision he has for 2008 and beyond.

On the Road

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

With this sermon, we’ll have an opportunity to get to know our new Minister of Congregational Care, Melody Merida. She shares both the story of her own faith journey, and the vision God has called her to with Jesus MCC, especially with children’s and family ministry.

When Everything Gets Scrambled

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Life is funny. One minute you’re walking down the road, your world all neatly ordered, everything in place, then *bam* something happens, and it feels like suddenly, everything is scrambled.

As you probably know, we announced this week that Julie Benson has resigned from her position as Minister of Worship, effective January 6.

This is a big change for our church — and change hurts. It’s really annoying when God takes something that is working so beautifully and shakes it up.

How should a person of faith respond in times of seismic change — whether that change is taking place in our church or in our personal lives? How should we respond?

When Mercy Rains Down

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

If you could pick only one thing to help you draw closer to God, which would it be:

  • prayer
  • Bible study
  • tithing
  • worship attendance
  • church membership

Answer: none of the above.  This sermon looks at the one thing that’s more potent than anything else for drawing us — individually or collectively — into the presence of God.

The Gift

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Does religion, to you, seem like just a bunch of rules to keep? Maybe that’s how you were raised — or maybe that’s just how the loudest TV preachers present it.

But Jesus gave us a better way — a life of the Spirit, not a life of rules. This sermon looks at this conflict, of law vs. Spirit.

But we’ll take it a step farther, too. Is there something about this life of the Spirit that we have, that we can offer to the world?

Eyes Wide Shut

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

As you read the Gospels, it’s stunning how many people just didn’t get it — they didn’t grasp the significance of Jesus’ presence with them.

What about us? Could we make the same mistake? Listen as we look at some of the signs of Jesus’ presence among us today.

Being Champions: State of the Church

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

We’ll look at some goals for Jesus MCC in 2007, specifically:

  • the challenge of a growing congregation in a building that seems to be getting smaller, and
  • the next two rounds of Would Jesus Discriminate?

This is part two of Pastor Jeff’s State of the Church Sermon.
