World Missions Day 2007!

September 23 is Jesus MCC’s first-ever World Missions Day! Our morning services will feature Pastor Nan Erbaugh from Lower Miami Church of the Brethren, Dayton, Ohio. Nan will give us an overview of the critical situation in Sudan, based on her travels with the New Community Project. The evening service will feature the Director of the New Community Project, David Radcliff, who will talk about how we can connect with a community in Sudan and show the love of Christ by meeting practical needs. After the evening service, David will share dinner in the Social Hall and answer questions.

Currently the Missions Board is in discussions with the New Community Project about possible participation in a trip to Sudan in January, 2009. New Community Project is a Christian outreach organization with the modest goal of changing the world! As NCP says, “People are struggling, the earth is a mess, and God’s not amused!” NCP is not just about missions trips. It’s about life changing experiences where we build lasting community with others. Sunday’s presentations are meant to help us discern whether our congregation is ready to reach across the globe in the name of Christ.

Meanwhile, two other missions endeavors are already underway.

Navajo Update

The team for our Navajo Missions Trip to New Mexico is now set. Departure is October 20. Please pray for the team as they engage in home repair projects and assist children and adults with developmental disabilities. If you would like to help by donating items, please see the Cactus in the social hall and take a form. Items are due by October 7.

This trip is the first step toward ongoing community building. To that end, we are now forming a ministry team dedicated to ongoing dialogue with the Navajo, taking on projects, and helping plan future trips. For more information, email missions@jesusmcc.org. In the future, ministry teams will be formed for each community we connect with.

We especially want to thank Tom Chittenden, who has served as our travel agent and has not taken any commission for his work!

Christian Children’s Fund

Did you know that half of the world’s poorest people are children? Despite major advances in medicine, science and technology, one out of four babies is born into extreme poverty. For five years our church has had a special partnership with the Christian Children’s Fund, which provides practical assistance to impoverished children. For more information about our CCF project, please email missions@jesusmcc.org.

Soon you will see some changes on the missions display wall, where CCF photos are now displayed. We will update the photos and provide information on all our missions activities.
