Missions Projects in High Gear

July 11th, 2008 • Category: Helping Those in Need

Two exciting missions projects are now taking shape:

  • We’re making plans for another Navajo Nation Missions Service Trip in October, and
  • We’ll be parking cars at the Brickyard 400 to offset some of the costs of this trip and other missions endeavors.

Navajo Nation Missions Service Trip

We’ll be traveling again to the Navajo Nation in New Mexico October 11-18, 2008, to share the love of Christ through completion of service projects.

Our tasks will take two forms:

  • Home building and repair projects like framing, drywall, painting, and flooring for indigent families, and
  • Providing assistance to children and adults with developmental disabilities.  This may include helping with art projects, providing encouragement and on-task focus in the classroom, and assisting with living skills.

We can accommodate 14 people on this trip.  Background checks and proof of medical insurance are required.

The total cost of the trip is $1,000 (self funded) which includes airfare, ground transportation, food, and lodging.  Applications and the initial deposit of $450 is due July 20.  This deadline is critical!  The second payment of $300 is due by August 17, and the final $250 is due September 20.

If you would like to go, please email the missions board for an application.  Please submit your application with deposit now while space is still available!

The Navajo are the largest group of indigenous people in the United States, numbering over 300,000.  The Navajo Nation is covered in desert or dry land, which makes farming difficult.  Children must travel long distances to attend school and the dropout rate is high. The unemployment rate is 60%.   Most Navajo homes have two rooms or less and do not have running water.  Only 50% have electricity.

Our home base for this trip will be in Gallup, New Mexico.  We’ll call the Sacred Heart Retreat Center “home” for the duration of our trip.  Our reserved unit has seven bedrooms with two twin beds and adjoining bath/shower.  There is a furnished kitchen/dining area.

Each Team Member will be required to attend two training sessions prior to trip departure.

We can all be part of this trip—even if we can’t travel.
Each of us can assist right here in Indianapolis by volunteering to park cars at the Brickyard 400.  The work is simple and it is a great time of fellowship.  Each volunteer will earn $7.00 per hour.  No taxes will be taken out and you don’t report it as income, as the proceeds go directly to JesusMCC.   You can choose just one shift, or as many as you can fit in your schedule!   We can use up to 20 volunteers per shift.  See the registration form for days and times.

Please consider heeding this call for service. Your individual efforts can help us collectively serve those who are lost and hurting around the globe.   Questions?  Please email the church office.
