Confronting the Boogieman Rev. Jeff Miner, June 25, 2006.
There are six passages in the Bible that are sometimes used like clubs to hit gay people over the head.

In this sermon we look at what, for some, is the great Boogieman of the Bible, so to speak -- Romans chapter 1.  Some people find it so intimidating, they just turn and run -- don't want to look at it; don't want to think about it.  As a result, they live in fear.

Remember when you were a kid lying in bed, petrified that there was a monster in the closet? As long as you lay there paralyzed by fear, the situation wasn't going to get any better. What was it you needed to do?  Dare to get out of bed, walk over to the closet, and throw open the door.  It took lots of courage, but once you did it, you were free.

So dare to listen. We'll take this passage apart, study it, and understand it.

Families -- As God Sees Them Rev. Jeff Miner, June 18, 2006.
There are three great love stories recounted in the Bible. Did you know that none of the three conform to "traditional family values"?  We'll look at one of those love stories this week.  This story has profound meaning for all families, but especially for those who don't fit the "traditional" mold.

When Fresh Breezes Blow Rev. Jeff Miner, June 11, 2006.
Imagine if you could float above the fray, experiencing serenity, even when the world around you is its usual self -- loud, annoying, full of strife and conflict and soul-toxins and despair.

  • To live in the world, but not be dragged down by it.
  • To get up in the morning and feel power and grace instead of hopelessness.

Well, there is a way to live like that -- scripture calls it "Living in the Spirit."

Psychic Hotline Rev. Jeff Miner, June 4, 2006.
It's human nature to want to know what our future holds. But it's really not so hard to figure out. An old proverb puts it this way: What you shall be, you are now becoming.

So go ahead, gaze into your future to see what it holds. Like what you see?

Stop Playing Small Rev. Jeff Miner, May 28, 2006.
Have you ever read the stories in the Bible and thought to yourself, "Wow! If only I could have been there!"

Imagine if you had been among the Israelites in Egypt, part of that historic generation that dared to defy the Pharaoh.  Or better yet, imagine if you had been one of the original disciples of Jesus.

But we don't live then.  We live now -- in an age of smallness, when it seems mighty acts of God are a thing of the past.

So why do some individuals or groups rise to greatness, while others don't?

Making Friends with a Shy God Rev. Jeff Miner, May 21, 2006.
Where are you in life right now? Surely the Lord is in that place, though you may not know it.  Wherever you are in life right now is an awesome place, because God is willing to be right there with you in that place.

This is the promise of the Holy Scriptures: the God who is, wants to be with you.

But how do we open ourselves to God's presence?  This sermon looks at the examples of Jacob, Mary and Martha, and Elijah to get some insight.

Because of You Rev. Jeff Miner, May 14, 2006.
Have you ever paid attention to the lyrics of the Kelli Clarkson song with that title?

"I lose my way / And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry /Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake, a smile, a laugh / Every day of my life
My heart can't possibly break /When it wasn't even whole to start with."

Harsh. But even if ol' Mom and Dad were a cross between the Cleavers and the Bradys, most of us can probably relate, at least a little.

On this Mother's Day, we'll take a look at the best and worst parents in the Scriptures. Whether you are a parent, or have great parents, or don't know how to deal with your parents, you'll find somthing in this sermon that will be of benefit.

Lightening Strikes! Rev. Jeff Miner, May 7, 2006.
Just last year Indiana's legislature -- urged on by the religious/political right -- voted overwhelmingly to amend Indiana's Constitution to deprive gay families of equal protection under the law.  Next year that same measure will come back to the legislature, then be presented to Hoosier voters in 2008.

What can we do to help change hearts and minds?  And where will we ever find the necessary resources?  In this sermon, Pastor Jeff describes an amazing opportunity God has given Jesus MCC to help accomplish this.

Extreme Makeover: Soul Edition Rev. Tammy Mills, April 30, 2006.
Do you ever watch home makeover shows, and marvel at the beautiful results?  But before the shiny new stuff can be installed, there's always the need for the hard and messy work of demolition.

This sermon takes a look at how that can relate to our own soul. We want to be beautiful on the inside -- but can we stand for anything to be demolished to make way for the new?

Power Surge Rev. Jeff Miner, April 16, 2006.
What is the most basic pattern for Christian living? We're just completing a week (Holy Week) in which we have celebrated this epic pattern.  It's a two-part sequence, death and resurrection -- the basic motif of Christian life, God's road map for success in our lives.

Most of us want to skip right over the "death" part -- none of that icky business for me, thank you. But we'd be missing something mystical and filled with incredible power.

One of the Herd Rev. Jeff Miner, April 9, 2006.
We live in an age of rugged individualism, where we've been taught to isolate and go it alone. But is this an authentically Christ-like pattern of life?

As we examine Jesus' final days before the cross, we learn some incredible things from his example.

Lone Wolf? Rev. Jeff Miner, April 2, 2006.
You've likely heard of Steven Covey's book, "The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People"  This week, we begin a worship series about "The Five Habits Of Highly Effective Spiritual People."

This sermon begins with the most important of the five.  What would you guess is the single most important thing we can do to increase our odds of spiritual survival?
